Imagine your ideal day
Mar 26, 2021
“Imagine your ideal day” is something I have read on multiple blogs and comes forward in a number of books. I found it hard to actually visualize it, I’m not even sure what I want to do let alone how it should be done. But during reading more books and putting my thought on markdown files for this blog I got more comfortable about thinking how I would like to do things. For me it helped to break it up in separate pieces instead of one flowing day. …
Goodbye Things
Mar 04, 2021
I have read “Goodbye Things” By Fumio Sasaki once before. I was binging a lot of Minimalism content(Ironically) and found that this book was one that goes more into the whole idea and mindshift behing minimizing, instead of going through all rooms in your house and listing what can be removed. “Goodbye Things” falls more in the hardcore minimalism side of things for me. On one hand you have the people who try to live with x amount of things and try to get as close to 0 as possible and on the other had you have the declutter and keep what you like kind of minimalism. This book falls somewhere in between, it strives towards the absolute minimal but you do get to keep some of your own stuff as well. …
No buy February 2021
Mar 01, 2021
Rough start again this month. Got dragged into the meme stock GME and bought in at $240 and again at $95 to average it out. Seems to have lost around $600 right there. My personal spending is still zero for any goods. Did buy some craft beer but that is in my living costs. As the challenge is not about not buying anything, just physical and digital goods. I did start spending a lot of time on Reddit and Youtube, getting dragged into the news and negativity. Which let to the GME fiasco for me. …
No buy January 2021
Feb 01, 2021
Well let me start of by saying that I am happy I called it a “No Buy Year” instead of a “No Spend Year” as my cat claimed most of my budget this month. She had gotten sick in the first few days of the new year and had to spend some days at the vet and we had to give her antibiotics and pain suppressants for a few weeks. But due to not buying anything I had enough money to pays the bills immediately. …
No buy 2021
Jan 01, 2021
One of my goals for 2021 and one that I had for the last 4 years is to increase my income by x amount. The last few years I have focused on minimizing my expenses through minimalism and trying to do most things myself. I managed to save almost half my income the previous years and I plan to increase that the coming year. Through minimalism and decluttering I gained a greater insight in what I value and what I “need”. A lot of things society or the media tells you you need you really don’t or you might already have it, just a lesser version of it. …
Digital simplicity
Oct 24, 2020
By now you might have read Cal Newport’s Digital Minimalism. I know I have and I was intrigued by the idea. Although I would like to take it a bit further than just social media and online presence. I have been using a password manager for multiple years which allowed me to create lots of accounts with different passwords. Over the years I have managed to accrue 152 separate accounts and passwords. This is not minimalism. Using the Pareto principle of the 20/80 percent rule I can conclude that I only use about 30 of those accounts most of the time. …

Maintenance
Aug 06, 2020
Stuff either upgrades, maintains or degrades its state. If you neglect your things, they will degrade. If you maintain them on schedule, they will stay maintained. And when you replace parts or make things better it will be upgraded. The first thing is simple, you have to do nothing. Your stuff won’t last long and you will be forced to either by new or upgrade prematurely. Maintaining costs time and space. Space because you need tools to maintain stuff. A bicycle does not take much space, but if you want to replace a part you need the following: …
